Frequently asked questions

Is HeyFriend a caregiving service?
No. HeyFriend provides social companionship only. Companions do not provide nursing, personal care, medication management or any medical services. If your parent needs professional care, we're happy to be a warm complement to it—not a replacement.
Will my parent meet the same companion each time?
Yes—that's the heart of HeyFriend. Your parent is matched with one companion who visits regularly, so a genuine friendship can grow. If their companion is ever unavailable, we'll always let you know in advance.
How are companions vetted?
Every companion completes identity verification, a personal interview, reference checks and safety training before they meet anyone. They also agree to a clear code of conduct covering boundaries, privacy and money.
Can my parent choose their companion?
Absolutely. We propose a companion we believe is a genuine fit, and your parent meets them in a relaxed introduction. Nothing continues unless your parent is happy with the match.
What happens if the match does not feel right?
Just tell us. We'll handle the conversation and thoughtfully introduce someone new—no awkwardness, no hard feelings. Chemistry matters, and sometimes it takes a second introduction.
Can companions accompany my parent outside?
Yes—walks, cafés, shopping, community activities and accompanying your parent to appointments are all part of everyday companionship, as long as your parent is comfortable and it's agreed in advance.
Will I receive updates after visits?
If you'd like them, yes—a short, friendly note after each visit. We balance keeping family in the loop with respecting your parent's privacy and independence, and your parent always knows what is shared.
What happens during an emergency?
Companions are trained to call local emergency services immediately, stay with your parent, and notify the family and the HeyFriend team. HeyFriend itself is not an emergency response provider.
Can older adults sign up themselves?
Of course. Many older adults choose HeyFriend for themselves. Simply fill in the same form (choose "I am the older adult") or call us—we'd love to hear from you directly.
